There is no doubt that there are a multitude of jokes focusing on the baby boomers.
Many of them are made with a fondness, and some may be a bit crude and perhaps cruel referring to them as "the has beens".
What everyone needs to ask themselves though is what state would the world be in without the baby boomers? To begin with, one only has to look back through the years of the baby boomer.
These would be between 1946 and 1964.
There was a multitude of contributions both big and small made from this generation to society.
Without their existence the world would have suffered many great losses.
One of the biggest contributions that this group as a whole made to society was the expansion of personal freedom.
This is in reference to their participation in the civil rights movements, the right to privacy, and the rights for the handicapped.
There efforts have served a great many people.
It is no secret as to how dependent the drug manufacturing companies are on the baby boomers as their valued customers.
In fact approx.
77% of their business comes from this group.
This industry is not the only ones that reaps the benefits from the baby boomers either.
The over the counter sales for medication racks up 61% based on baby boomer purchases.
Perhaps the industry that would suffer the most without the boomers would be the travel industry being as 80% of their business is centered on this generation.
Now can you imagine how many jobs would be lost without the boomers providing the needs for the industries that were just mentioned? There are those that complain that the baby boomers are taking up too much of the job market.
Well without these jobs and their spending money, the economy would no doubt be on very shaky ground.
Many think that the boomers for the most part are living the life of luxury in a small sense of the word.
At the very least it is assumed that many of them are living financially comfortable.
In reality though, many of them and up to approximately 60% suffered severe losses on their investments due to the economic crisis.
Many of them are in a position to retire but are delaying it because they are not as financially strong as they feel they should be.
In summary though the majority of the baby boomers have no real regrets, and many will tell you that life has been a blast and they are looking forward to more of the same in their senior years.
