How to Put Rawlings Pads Into a Football Uniform
- 1). Insert the cup into the jock strap. There is an opening on the top of the strap that allows you to insert the cup. The strap can be worn above or underneath underwear, depending on your comfort level.
- 2). Insert the hip pads into the sides of the girdle. There is a pocket on each side of the girdle. Push these pads as far down as you can.
- 3). Turn the girdle around to find a small slot for the butt pad. The butt pad (or tailbone pad) is a tall thin pad made to protect your tailbone. Slide this into the slot pocket on the back end of the girdle. It is going to be a tough squeeze, however the tightness helps prevent the pad from popping out.
- 4). Pull the football pants inside out. This exposes the pockets for the knee and thigh pads.
- 5). Insert the knee pads at the bottom of the pants. If the pads curve slightly, you want the curve to be towards the space in between the legs. Your knee fits more naturally into this curve than if the curve is facing away from the body. Place the thigh pads into the top pockets, then turn the football pants right side out.
- 6). Turn the shoulder pads straight up and push them into the jersey. Aim for one of the sleeves. Push the shoulder pads into the sleeve, then push up on the other side. Football jerseys are made to stretch slightly, so pushing up on the shoulder pads is not going to rip the jersey. Continue pushing and pulling on the shoulder pads until they are all the way in the jersey.
