How to Customize Sport Jerseys
- 1). Purchase all of the necessary materials needed to customize the sport jersey. Purchase iron-on letters, numbers, and designs from craft apparel stores. Buy embroidered patches for under $5 at a craft apparel store or online specialty patch retailer. The characters and patches come in all different colors, shapes and sizes. Purchase colors that contrast with the sport jersey for better visualization. For example, purchase a purple design for a white jersey.
- 2). Place the sport jersey on the ironing board with the back of the jersey facing upright. Lay the letters and numbers evenly on the back of the jersey with the use of the ruler. For example, the back of the jersey can have the number of the player centered, while the name of the player is positioned over the numbers across the shoulder section of the jersey. The characters should not be placed closer than 1/2 inch apart from each other.
- 3). Plug in the iron and set the heating temperature to low. Firmly press the iron down on each character, one at a time, in four-second increments. Continue ironing the characters individually until each one has adhered to the sport jersey.
- 4). Turn the sport jersey over so that the front of the jersey is facing upright on the ironing board. Position the design in the center of the jersey. The design may be the school crest or team crest for example. Place the characters of the school name or team name evenly over the top of the design using the ruler for guidance. Iron on the design and letters in four-second increments until they have adhered to the front of the sport jersey.
- 5). Sew on embroidered patches to either sleeve of the jersey. Pull 2 feet of thread through the eye of the needle. Cut the thread from the spool with the scissor. Use thread that will blend in with the team jersey. For example, use white thread when sewing on patches to a white jersey. Sew the patch on the jersey by running the thread in and out of the patch and jersey continuously. Start at the top of the patch and work the needle and thread around the perimeter until the patch is securely on the jersey. Cut the remaining thread off with the scissor.
